Lewisham Council's Improving Health and Wellbeing in Schools work provides additional support and expertise for schools to be able to deliver effective and evidence-based education to improve the health and wellbeing of pupils.
The school environment is highly influential on children’s behaviour, both through the influence of the curriculum, and the culture of the school. There is a growing evidence base on the effectiveness of the school-based intervention to promote healthy eating, physical activity, mental health and emotional wellbeing and to minimise harms from drug and alcohol use.
All Lewisham maintained schools benefit from a range of services provided or commissioned by the council’s Public Health team to improve pupil health and wellbeing. Schools are also able to access support to deliver other health promoting activities, including the Healthy Schools London programme, Relationships, Sex and Health Education, The Daily Mile, Sugar Smart Lewisham, Youth Mental Health First Aid and suicide prevention training.
